The town of Winona Lake is a pocket community of approximately 5,000 people within the larger city of Warsaw. Winona is well known for it’s many artisan shops, boutiques and restaurants located in the heart of “The Village”. The town attracts tourists from all over the Midwest for it’s weekend art festivals, fat & skinny tire festival, network of hiking and biking trails, and historic Billy Sunday Museum. Winona Lake is also the home to Grace College and many of the alumni whose hearts were captivated by the beauty of this small town and decided to make it their permanent residence.
It goes without saying that Winona Lake itself is a main attraction of this small town. The lake is 571 acres in total and hosts some of the most spectacular sunsets you will ever see. Every 4th of July residents and visitors also enjoy a full blown display of fireworks over the lake. Being an all-sport lake, it is excellent for boating, water-skiing, kayaking and fishing, where you can expect to catch bluegill, catfish, bass, sunfish and perch. The Lake has an average depth of 30 feet and a maximum depth of 79 feet.
Winona Lake is bordered on the east by a park, splash pad and public beach where you will find lots of families enjoying the outdoors and swimming all summer long. The east side is also where you will find ten miles of wooded hiking and biking trails. Because it is one of the most coveted lakes in all of Kosciusko County, lakefront properties are harder to come by. Homes along the lake range from small cottages to large lakeside estates.
Property values in Winona Lake have been on a steady incline since the 1980s. Many of the homes on the island and in the village have been newly renovated, though there are still a handful of homes in need of fixing up. Further out of Winona proper you will find the neighborhoods of Southtown, Heritage Lake Park, Lexington Manor, Stonehenge, and a recent development of new homes in Tuscany.
Winona Lake has a lot to offer and is a highly desirable place to be. As a former resident of Winona proper for nearly a decade, I give it a hearty endorsement.
