Lake Wawasee is a quiet neighborhood in the south-eastern region of Syracuse, IN. It is bordered by S Huntington Street to the west, E Koher Rd S to the south, and N 1000 E and County Rd 1200 W to the east. Initially, the area was occupied by prehistoric Native Americans who used to use the lake as their water source for their daily needs. More recently, the site was discovered to be the Pottawatomi and Miami tribes’ home a couple of centuries ago. Its name came from the Miami chief, Wawaausee. He took part in the Treaty of Mississinewas, which allowed him to own a small village in Syracuse city back in the 1830s.
